What is GMV Max, and how does it work with TikTok Shop affiliates?

GMV Max is TikTok's own ad tool for shops. It puts your ad money behind your best videos, and those mostly come from affiliates, so the ad budget and the affiliate program belong with one team.

What it does

GMV means gross merchandise value, your shop's total sales. Affiliates are creators paid a commission on what they sell.

“I think as a brand like you got to love GMV Max. It's like an automatic like automated way to like run ads on the best creators videos.”
Samformer TikTok strategic partner manager for top affiliates

Shop House, February 2026

Sam's catch: it can be hard on a creator starting from a very low point, so new creators may still need a push from you.

Why the ad money and the affiliates belong together

  1. Amanda Parker, head of food at TikTok Shop, says affiliates bring in the vast majority of sales on the platform.
  2. She also says many of those sales come from old videos, often boosted with ad money. A video you seeded last month may be the one worth paying for today.
“About 50% of GMV on platform is coming from videos that are over 30 days old”

  1. Chase Chappell, who runs an ads agency for brands on TikTok Shop, waits for first sales before he spends.
“Once you see some subtle signs of success, maybe $500 in sales, $1,000 in sales, well, that's where you move the money.”
Chase Chappell

  1. He also tells creators about the ad budget up front, because paid money behind their videos means more views and more commission for them.

Who should own it

“One of the biggest mistakes that I've seen with big enterprise brands when we talk to them is that they actually put Tik Tok shop into their marketplace division like an Amazon, like a Walmart, like a Target.”
Jordan Westwho runs the TikTok Shop agency Social Commerce Club

his YouTube channel, January 2026

His point is that TikTok Shop creates demand. So whoever owns it should also have a say on the ads and the creators.

What shop figures can and can't tell you

We checked 309 brands. 132 were on TikTok Shop. 18 showed up in FastMoss, a TikTok sales tracker, at $142,879 or more a month, and 9 of those were flat or falling.

BrandSep 2026Against August
Bask and Lather$1,281,525Down 40.8%
Nutricost$1,175,812Up 27.84%
DRMTLGY$1,080,274Down 4.41%
Bedsure$684,965Up 35.78%
Shakawear$550,155Down 25.24%
  • A shop can swing hard in one month.
  • FastMoss can't show how much came from ad money or who made the videos, and a Spark Ad carries no public mark. So from outside, nobody can tell you why.

Getting the winners to Meta and YouTube

“You can take something from TikTok and it will usually perform decently well on Meta and YouTube Shorts. You can't take something from Meta and bring it over into TikTok typically if you haven't already cracked the TikTok style content.”
William Harrisfounder of an ecommerce ad agency

Up Arrow Podcast, March 2025

  1. That's the order we run them: first in GMV Max, then in Meta.
  2. The brand connects its TikTok Shop and gives us access to the ad account.

You spend on ads, you pay for influencer marketing separately, and maybe someone else runs TikTok. We run all three together, so creator videos reach your ad account and the budget moves to what brings in customers.
